Two-cent Tuesdays
This weekly post will discuss the things that tend to anger me or interests me about the misconceptions that pit bulls have, this may include personal realizations, news stories, or just information about these misconceptions that the dogs have.
The story of Kiah
Pit bulls are said to be very aggressive dogs that should not be trusted and act on their own terms. These stereotypes are being destroyed by Kiah. Here is another blog that talks about Kiah. Below is a picture of Kiah who is the first official police dog in New York that is a pit bull. She works at the City of Poughkeepsie Police Department with her partner in crime-fighting Officer Justin Bruzgul, as a narcotics and missing persons detection dog. She looks very proud of herself as well.
Kiah was in a shelter when she was selected to train to be a police dog. Prior to her arrival at the shelter she was severely abused, and was even hit in the head with a hammer shortly before she arrived at the shelter. She had no reason to trust people, but she did not hold any sort of grudge against people and didn't really act in a aggressive manner. She was confused about what to do un the beginning of her training but she quickly learned about what she needed to do and began to outdo the other dogs. She is a narcotics and missing person detention dog and her partner says that she wouldn't hurt a fly. She was also recognized by the ASPCA for her work with the community. (link to article).
What about you? Do you think that all dogs should be given an equal chance at greatness? Feel free to comment!
